Getting medical help fast

Call 111 when it's less urgent than 999

Getting medical and health advice fast is getting easier with a new national phone service and a web app for east Surrey.

NHS 111 and the Health Help Now website are two new health information services available at the touch of a few buttons.

Dial NHS 111

When you or someone in your family becomes unwell or is injured, but it’s not serious enough to call 999, it can be hard to find help quickly. NHS 111 is a new national phone service for non-emergency health advice.

You can now use NHS 111 when, for instance:

  • you think you may need to go to A&E
  • you are unsure who to call or you can’t contact a GP
  • you need health advice on what to do next.

NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is free from landlines and mobiles. Callers can also get information on local health services.

Find out more on the NHS website.

The must-have app

For times when you don’t need to speak to someone, why not try the new local Health Help Now app. It can help you find the right treatment for health problems, especially when you are not sure what to do or who to contact. Easy to use and free, it also gives information on health services in east Surrey.

Health Help Now, which works on smartphones, tablets and computers, lists common symptoms – such as breathing problems, injury, and sickness – and offers suggestions for treatment based on five age groups: baby, child, teenager, adult and older adult.

You can download the free app for iphones, Android or Windows from the Health Help Now website.

In a life threatening emergency, always call 999.

Consultations
Social housing provision

Are you interested in local social housing provision? Have you ever been on the housing waiting list or do you know someone who is?

Reigate & Banstead is reviewing its policy on applications to the housing register and how homes are allocated. The housing register is a waiting list for affordable rented accommodation in the borough.

This is as a result of feedback from applicants and stakeholders, updates in legislation and guidance and the need to make the best use of the very limited number of social homes. The council is proposing a number of changes to the current policy and we would like to hear residents' views about these changes.

To read more about the changes and take part in the survey about the proposals, visit our webpage Consultation on the Registration and Allocations Policy. The survey runs until 19 February.

Adult social care, care homes and transport
Consultations on adult social care charges, residential care homes and local transport are being carried out by Surrey County Council.

Older people's residential care homes

Surrey County Council is encouraging residents affected by a change to the services provided by six of its care homes for older people to fill in a short survey.
The deadline on this consultation, which includes Park Hall in Reigate, has been extended until 30 January.

Surrey County Council says that the care homes are currently under used and are not designed to meet changing needs and new standards for accommodation.

To find out more and complete the survey, visit the consultation's page of the Surrey Says website.

Adult care and support services

Do you or someone you know currently pay towards adult care and support services such as residential, nursing or home care? Surrey County Council is thinking about making changes to its current policy on charging for adult care. This is partly due to bringing in the necessary legal changes through new legislation, the Care Act 2014 but also to raise more income, enabling Surrey County Council to provide more care services than it could otherwise afford. You can complete the survey on charging policy for adult care online until 26 January.

Extended deadline for transport survey

By popular demand, a survey from Surrey County Council on local transport from has been extended. It’s a quick survey asking about residents’ use of buses as well as what stops them using buses. The local transport review survey is available online until Monday 2 February,

Council car parks
Do you use council car parks? If not, what stops you?
We would like to hear your views on the council's car parks around the borough. If you don't use them, what stops you? Please share your views with us by taking our short survey by Wednesday 28 January.
