Gatwick Airport flight path
A change in Departure route 4 trailed from 26 May
|
Aircraft departing from Gatwick now fly using a method known as ‘Precision Area Navigation’ (P-RNAV). The system means departing aircraft follow more precise flight paths and has been introduced so that the CAA can eventually switch off ground-based navigation systems across the UK. Gatwick designed and introduced new flight paths that sit within the airport’s nine noise preferential routes or corridors that departing aircraft fly within. Aircraft started flying these modified flight paths in late 2013 and early 2014 and these routes have just been reviewed by the CAA to see if they are compliant with regulations. Following a series of consultations a modified design for Departures Route 4 came into effect on 26 May. Gatwick Airport Limited placed adverts in the local papers to raise awareness and has also updated its website blog page. Gatwick Airport Limited is encouraging residents and business to share their feedback via the dedicated email address. It is really important that residents and business share their views and experience of the modification, both positive and negative, so that feedback can be given to the CAA who will make the decision as to whether to approve the modified design for the route.
