Borough businesses are already benefiting from the Council’s new partnership with national small business support group Enterprise Nation.

Lower Kingswood photographer Rachel Thornhill, who runs Rachel Thornhill Photography, praised the Council’s ‘pro-active’ attitude with small local firms looking to get to the next level – and is delighted with her membership.

Rachel said: “When Enterprise Nation partnered with the Council, I realised how many resources and tools there are out there that can support me as a business - they can help me network, grow, train. I thought ‘oh my goodness’, this is exactly what I want to get involved with.

“This partnership has made me feel that I’m not on my own and it’s delivered with such passion and enthusiasm, it’s infectious!”

Borough businesses are already benefiting from the Council’s new partnership with national small business support group Enterprise Nation.

Lower Kingswood photographer Rachel Thornhill, who runs Rachel Thornhill Photography, praised the Council's ‘pro-active’ attitude with small local firms looking to get to the next level – and is delighted with her membership.

Rachel said: “When Enterprise Nation partnered with the Cuncil, I realised how many resources and tools there are out there that can support me as a business, they can help me network, grow, train. I thought ‘oh my goodness’, this is exactly what I want to get involved with.

“This partnership has made me feel that I’m not on my own and it’s delivered with such passion and enthusiasm, it’s infectious!”

Rachel has made use of the other support the Council provides too. She added: “When I started my business, I really felt on my own. I’m a busy mum of two and juggling a new enterprise whilst running around after my little boys was a challenge.

“Then I found out about the grant at the council, and what else they offer to support local businesses. I applied for the grant to go towards the purchase of a MacBook Pro, which was really useful for my photography business and allowed me more flexibility with the corporate sessions I offer as well.

“When I put together my business plan for the Council, it made me ask myself a lot of questions, number crunching was pretty intimidating before then, but it was eye opening and I realised that planning for the future was actually pretty exciting.”

Rachel’s stunning photography sessions cover everything from family lifestyle sessions to corporate photography. She works with her clients to make sure the sessions result in a lasting set of beautiful photographs that will stand the test of time.

Businesses who receive a business support grant or have been to the Entrepreneurs Academy will receive a year's free membership to Enterprise Nation.  If you would like to sign up as a small business, for £10.00 a month you can connect with advisers and other members. If you need help with a particular project, accountancy, SEO or digital marketing – access the community of 70,000. Attend local events, host events, upload content, access content and much more.

The Big Bang Fair South East, on 27 and 28 June 2018, is all about inspiring the next generation of young people to find out more about STEM subjects and future career paths.  The event aims to raise awareness, improve perception and motivate young people to consider careers in STEM disciplines by providing two fun-filled days of around 250 interactive STEM related shows, workshops, demonstrations and activities.

This annual event, organised by STEM Sussex, requires the continued support from South East-based employers, scientific and professional associations, and education and outreach organisations.    In order to reflect the variety of STEM based career paths and continue running this unique event, STEM Sussex is keen to engage with new supporters and funders. In return, companies and organisations are guaranteed to engage with many teachers and students and consequently have the opportunity to inspire and motivate the future workforce and help to reduce the local STEM skills gap. In addition, businesses are able to further build their reputation in the region and network and engage with other like-minded organisations.

Companies or organisations interested in exhibiting or funding the event can email or phone Estelle Whewell at STEM Sussex on 01273 644178.
