Warwick Enterprise Challenge

The Warwick School in Redhill are holding a Year 10 Enterprise Challenge on Wednesday 12th July.   This event is run by SATRO and involves a business game where students work in teams to set up a company, manufacture and sell a product (last year this was a stationary business), competing with other teams to make the most profit.

The whole Year 10 group (14 and 15 year olds) come together to work in teams, each encouraged by a business mentor volunteer drawn from a range of firms within our local community, in a competitive manner, alongside a team of teachers to support. Through the context of a Production Challenge the student team members take on roles such as purchasers, sales, marketing, production, MD and so forth, exploring the issues that businesses face and having to react as the day progresses to "incidents" and other changes in the business environment, such as stock price increases and shortages.

Students are of course simultaneously developing their own skills and exploring their abilities in terms of taking the initiative, listening to peers, taking and using advice, acting as part of a team, leadership, determination, communication and time-management, encouraging others and resilience.

They are looking for local employers to volunteer their services for the day.  This will involve working with the teams of students.  Would your company be able to help? Find out more

Would your company like to join the Enterprise Adviser Network?

Coast to Capital and The Careers and Enterprise Company deliver the Enterprise Adviser Network.  Latest research finds that young people who have 4 or more encounters with employers are 86% less likely to be NEET and earn, on average, 18% more than their peers who recalled no such activities, outlining the importance of meaningful Employer Engagements.

Enterprise Coordinators recruit senior business leaders, who are then matched with the Senior Leadership Team in a school or college. These volunteers become Enterprise Advisers who work with their linked school/college to develop a strategic plan to embed careers and enterprise across curriculum and to increase the number of employer encounters for every student.  Enterprise Advisers represent their own industry sectors to help inspire the next generation of employees.

Lisa Mobbs is the Enterprise Coordinator for schools and colleges within the 4 boroughs of East Surrey.  Lisa has almost achieved her target of having the EA Network within 20 schools and colleges in this area before the start of the next academic year.

Nationally, The Careers and Enterprise Company have a target to be working within 4000 schools and colleges across England. Locally, each Enterprise Coordinator works very closely with stakeholders and partners, including Reigate and Banstead Council.

If you are interested in becoming involved in this excellent careers and enterprise initiative, either as an individual or as a whole organisation, find out more information here.
