Funding to help deliver community infrastructure projects

An opportunity to bid for up to £500,000 in strategic CIL funding for infrastructure projects will open for one month between 30 June and 30 July 2025.

Reigate & Banstead Borough Council uses the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) that we collect from developments to help deliver infrastructure that supports the borough’s development, to help local communities to grow.

This includes allocating the “strategic” portion of the CIL collected to projects through a 5-year infrastructure programme, the “SIP”, Strategic Infrastructure Programme. The Council’s current second SIP, SIP(2) covers the period 2023/24 to 2027/28.

Outside of the SIP,  a total of up to £500,000 will be made available in 2025/26 to fund, or to contribute towards infrastructure projects that support the borough’s development.

Have your say on Local Government Reorganisation

The most significant change to local government in Surrey in over 50 years is on the horizon. In the future, the Government wants areas like Surrey to benefit from new Strategic Authorities, led by an elected Mayor. To do this, Surrey must first reorganise into councils which combine county and district and borough services. These are known as unitary authorities. This means that, by April 2027, the 12 councils in Surrey will be abolished and a much smaller number of new unitary authorities put in place.

The Government is consulting on two options:

  • A three unitary council model supported by Reigate & Banstead and eight other district and borough councils in Surrey. Under this option, the new East Surrey council would cover the area currently served by Reigate & Banstead, Tandridge, Mole Valley and Epsom & Ewell councils.
  • A two unitary council model supported by Surrey County Council and two district / borough councils. Under this option, the new East Surrey council would cover the area currently served by Elmbridge in addition to Reigate & Banstead, Tandridge, Mole Valley and Epsom & Ewell councils.

Residents, businesses and local organisations can have their say between today until 5 August.

Industrial Strategy to invest £150m in five transformative programmes

The UK’s Modern Industrial Strategy will invest more than £150 million as part of a 10-year plan to significantly increase business investment in 8 growth-driving sectors, making it quicker and easier for businesses to invest, and providing them with the certainty and stability needed for long-term investment decisions.

The strategy delivers a range of tangible benefits to small businesses: increasing access to finance with £4 billion of dedicated British Business Bank support; investing in the workforce of tomorrow through reformed skills provision with increased technology training; accelerating technology adoption through an expanded Made Smarter programme; boosting exports with expanded UK Export Finance capacity to £160 billion; and building more secure supply chains. It will also address key issues from tackling late payments to reforming procurement to make it easier for SMEs to win government contracts.  Emma Jones CBE has been appointed as the new Small Business Commissioner to tackle late payment and unfair payment practices.

The UK's Trade Strategy - Export Support

The Trade Strategy, with its focus on export, provides a clear path for local businesses to sell their products and services to the world.

UK Export Finance has enhanced its export insurance with a new Small Export Builder option, making export protection more accessible to smaller businesses seeking financial security when trading internationally.

The department is also introducing a ‘Repeat Order Guarantee’ so international buyers can easily keep accessing goods and services from their most trusted UK suppliers of all sizes and in a more streamlined way without the need of repeated applications, reducing red tape for business. This will help businesses to plan ahead and give greater assurance to UK-based supply chains.
