Reigate - Disability Confident

A rest in Truly Scrumptious, Reigate
A rest in Truly Scrumptious, Reigate

The Disability Confident scheme supports employers like you to make the most of the talents disabled people can bring to your workplace. However, increasing the number of Disability Confident employers requires some creative thinking, so the economic prosperity team has regular "Squad Meetings" with the Department of Work and Pensions and recently decided to try and make Reigate High Street a Disability Confident High Street. The Reigate Business Guild were notified and, on 29 August, the team set off along the High Street, armed with information leaflets and sign up forms.

They have already managed to sign up a total of 9 employers including:

Well done Reigate!  These sign-ups, along with some of the larger shops such as Morrisons and Marks & Spencer (who are already part of the scheme), make Reigate well-placed to be a disability confident town.  We are expecting further sign ups as several people said they would sign up online. The team was also able  to establish links with a number of employers who are recruiting and this will be followed up back in the office.

You can sign up to the scheme, wherever your business is based signup online. As an employer, if you would like to find out more about the scheme please contact Alison Barrett, Partnerships Manager or Lucy Ovington Disability Employment Advisor.

Other news
The Brexit Cascade: An interactive insight for small businesses.
Come along to the Redhill and Reigate Business forum

Even if you're not on the front line, or trade directly with the EU, it doesn’t stop you from being affected by Brexit. Are you prepared for all outcomes, including the implications of a No-Deal? With so much uncertainty it is difficult for businesses to know what to do to prepare. Join us on 2 October 16.30-19.00 for an interactive Q&A with our panel of experts, to hear the latest news and get answers to any questions you might have. Expert Panel:

  • Gary Hayes, International Trade Manager at Surrey Chamber of Commerce, will share the latest Brexit news and can advise on your Import/Export queries.
  • Steve Lane from Robinsons will provide an insight into the local property market and the knock-on effect Brexit might have.
  • Paul Samrah from Kingston Smith LLP will highlight the tax implications of Brexit and advise on last minute planning.
  • We will also hear from a local export business about their experience of preparing for Brexit (speaker to be confirmed).

Whilst there will be an opportunity to ask questions on the night, we're also keen to have some suggestions on anything in particular that you would like guidance on. Send through your questions in advance to mmilton@ks.co.uk You can also join the conversation at our R&R Forum event by downloading the Sli.do app. We will be making the discussion interactive by asking the audience to participate in a series of polls throughout the event. Please download the app in advance - the event code will be provided on the night. Click here to find out more:www.sli.do

Consultation – Community Infrastructure Levy Local Fund community priorities and project suggestions
Closing 13 October 2019

The Council is asking local communities about their priorities for spending funds collected from new developments in the borough to improve facilities, services and infrastructure.

Whenever a new development is built, the developers pay a Community Infrastructure Levy, which helps to fund the infrastructure, facilities and services needed to support the area’s new homes and businesses.

A proportion of this funding is made available to spend on local projects in the neighbourhoods where development has been built.

Do you think pedestrian footpaths need improving, or perhaps the area would benefit from more cycle storage racks, or enhancement of the appearance or parking in a local shopping parade?

We want to know your ideas for projects to fund.

Please complete the survey at www.reigate-banstead.gov.uk/CILLocalFund by Sunday 13 October 2019.

If you have any questions, please contact the Planning Policy team on 01737 276178 or cil@reigate-banstead.gov.uk.
