What a recycling year that was – service proves a hit with residents
The first full year results from our new recycling and refuse service are in and show that people have been rethinking their rubbish and recycling more than ever before. Thank you. - recycling rose by 17%
- we collected over 21,500 tonnes of recycling
- the rubbish sent to landfill was cut by over 5,000 tonnes, saving Surrey taxpayers landfill tax.
Higher than the national average
And you are now recycling 55% of your rubbish – far more than the national average. We are making 145,000 recycling and refuse collections every week, compared with 100,000 before the new service.
Membership of the garden waste service is up too with over 6,000 tonnes now composted as a result.
It's quite some achievement. So well done for thinking about re-using, then recycling and only then binning it as a last option.
