The council is currently seeking the views of residents and businesses on its draft air quality strategy and action plan for the period 2025-2030. The strategy focuses on reducing pollution from road traffic via the expansion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure to encourage EV uptake.

The plan is also examining the impact of measures that have recently been introduced such as the hydrogen powered fuel cell bus fleet, and it includes proposals for examining the impact of ultrafine particle pollution on residents in Horley (funded by DEFRA), as well as the ongoing support for the pollution warning service for residents with asthma and other respiratory problems.

A full copy of the draft air quality strategy and action plan can be found here.

If you would like to make any comments on the draft strategy please email the council by 13 October.

Careers Fair for care-experienced young people

Can you help? This unique careers event is aimed at empowering and inspiring care-experienced young people.  If you are able to talk about employment, personal development or finance - or you would like to showcase employment opportunities at your business, find out more below.

Surrey County Council are running a Private Care Experienced Careers Fair, taking place on Thursday, October 30 (9am to 5pm) at Woodhatch Place in Reigate.  It will feature a vibrant mix of lectures, stalls, and a panel discussion, all aimed at empowering and inspiring care-experienced young people.

How can I contribute?

Attendees will include young people aged 14 to 24, encompassing both older children in care and care leavers.

For local employers, there will be space for stalls both inside and outside the venue. Exhibitors and speakers will be provided a free lunch, as well as free hot drinks throughout the day.

Many young people have expressed a strong interest in developing life skills and independence, particularly around finance, employment, and personal development. If you feel you could contribute to these themes, the organisers would love to hear from you.

This event is a unique opportunity to engage with some of the most resilient, adaptable, and driven young people in our community. Too often, care-experienced individuals are overlooked, despite their remarkable ability to navigate challenges, embrace change, and pursue growth with determination.
