Final stage in works to upgrade the borough’s CCTV system

Over the past few weeks, CCTV cameras in 24 (mainly town centre) locations across the borough have been upgraded, including the installation of cameras at Merstham Recreation Ground. These are in addition to the 39 cameras that were replaced in 2023 in some of our green spaces and car parks. They record high-quality targeted images, which will be stored and available on request for 30 days, and are in the areas where they are need the most. Starting from 28 May, our contractor, DSSL Group Ltd, will be decommissioning any older cameras that remain in areas where they are rarely used and do not meet the ‘pressing needs’ test required by the Surveillance Camera Code of Practice. This is the final stage of our work to upgrade the borough’s public realm CCTV system.
