Making our streets safer

“I’m incredibly proud of the efforts of all our partners to address crime in Redhill and help people feel safer in the town. It’s a team effort and I’m grateful to all the businesses, organisations and residents who are supporting this project to take pride in Redhill.

"When our communities look at the number of arrests and charges we’ve made over the past year, I want to reassure residents that it’s through the work we’ve been doing that we’re able to seek out and clear this crime from the town. Surrey remains one of the safest counties in the UK and our enforcement activities have had a strong impact in Redhill. Since we began our increased police activity, we’ve seen a significant decrease in crimes such as shoplifting, sexual assaults, serious attacks, robbery and anti-social behaviour.”

Strong results form the police activity

Reflecting on the activity in Redhill over the past year, our partnership approach has secured strong results, which are reducing crime, increasing community confidence and taking offenders off the streets. From a policing perspective, a huge range of activity has had extensive results:

  • 155 arrests and 93 charges, of which 81 were charged and remanded
  • A combined prison time of 25 years for local offenders, with many more still to appear for trial
  • Two Criminal Behaviour Orders issued for anti-social behaviour and 80 Community Resolutions issued for offences such as possession of a small quantity of drugs, low value and first time shoplifting offences and minor public order incidents
  • Over £7,000 worth of fines, court costs and victim surcharges issued by the courts
  • 86 drug seizures, including 10kg of suspected cocaine
  • £89,000 cash recovered and weapons taken off the streets
  • 15 vehicles seized and driving disqualification penalties issued that total 8.5 years.

Alongside enforcement activity, the local policing team has built strong relationships within the town, whether that’s engaging with students at colleges, Meet the Beat sessions or licensing visits with the council’s Joint Enforcement Team to support premises in Redhill.

Share your thoughts on crime and anti-social behaviour in Redhill

This week, we launched a survey to gather opinions from Redhill residents and visitors about crime and anti-social behaviour in the town. Our initial survey in October 2023 directly informed the work we've been doing as part of the Safer Redhill partnership. We listened to the issues that mattered most to our communities and took action based on the feedback, which we've been sharing through this newsletter.

Now, we want to hear from our communities again to understand the impact of these measures. We want to know what's working and where we should continue to focus our efforts. Help us ensure all voices are heard by completing the survey and sharing with people who live, work, or visit Redhill.

Bringing art to Memorial Park

Students from Carrington School, Redhill, have worked with local artist, Uncle Stubble, on a community mural to transform an often overlooked corner of Memorial Park. The colourful mural, which was commissioned as part of the Safer Redhill programme and funded through the government’s Safer Streets fund, will help to create a more welcoming space for everyone to enjoy.

Fifteen students from years 7 to 9 took part and developed individual designs which fed into the artists' work painted on the wall of the disused pavilion. The students were asked to think about all the good things Redhill has to offer and to consider the history of the park and the town when coming up with their creative ideas.

YMCA Youth Workers visit Timperley Gardens

On Thursday 20 February, the YMCA Youth Workers hosted a one-off youth club session with the Y Bus at Timperley Gardens in Redhill, attracting around ten young people. The event saw young people enjoying a variety of activities, including card and board games, PS5 gaming, Jenga challenges, and creative bracelet making. The youth workers took the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions with the young people about their experiences in school and their opinions on the local area. Young people expressed an interest in more frequent events in the future.

Keep supporting our campaign to report anti-social behaviour

For the final month of our current campaign to report anti-social behaviour our digital content is including some familiar local faces. Individuals, including Andy Nash from The Belfry, Katie Mackay from The Light, Guy Hassell from Florries Café and Mahj Mabbani from Growing Health Together share their experiences of the project and the positive change it is making to Redhill. The campaign runs till the end of March and as ever, we would appreciate you support in liking and sharing any social media posts you see.

After this, The Chain Marketing will be helping to analyse the impact of the campaign that has been running since October across social media and Google Ads.
