With only a few days left until Reigate & Banstead voters go to the polls on 5 May, we are urging voters to make sure they are ready to vote in the local elections. Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday 5 May. Staff will be on hand at polling stations to assist voters with any questions about filling out their ballot paper. We've prepared a useful guide answering some of the most common questions we get asked.

Council tax rebate
£150 Council Tax rebate
 

We have started to make payments for the Government’s £150 Council Tax rebate to those who are entitled and pay their Council Tax bill by direct debit. The payment will go straight into your bank account. If you pay another way, we will write to you in early May with information on how to access our online portal make a claim. To get your payment quicker, sign-up to pay your bill by direct debit.

Local entrepreneurs win grants
 

Two local businesses were awarded an investment grant provided by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council as part of its Entrepreneur Academy last month. To win the grant, participants made a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style pitch to a panel of local business leaders at an event hosted by East Surrey College in Redhill.

£1.5m Merstham Rec refurb update
 

A £1.5 million refurbishment of Merstham Recreation Ground is a step closer with the submission of a planning application by the Council for improvements to the park. The application follows consultation with residents and local groups since autumn 2020 to get community input into initial designs, and feedback on the emerging plans.

An event in our community centre to celebrate Her Majesty's birthday.
Celebrating Her Majesty's birthday
 

On the 21 April the Mayor of Reigate & Banstead joined visitors and staff at our community centres in Banstead, Horley and Woodhatch to celebrate Her Majesty's 96th birthday. Thank you to everyone who came along and joined in the fun. Our three community centres offer a warm welcome to all visitors and a variety of activities to try throughout the week, as well as rooms to hire and a place to relax with friends over a drink and some tasty treats.

Come and visit us at the Town Hall!
 

Our Reception at Reigate Town Hall is open from 9am – 2pm, Monday to Friday. Please only visit us in person if you feel well. To make your visit safe for everyone - particularly vulnerable people - please follow signage and wear a face covering inside the building if you can.

Boiler upgrade scheme
 

From April 2022, the government is providing £5,000 to encourage households to replace gas boilers with low carbon heating systems, such as air source heat pumps (ASHPs). The grant would cover most of the cost and installation of an ASHP, which helps to reduce your greenhouse emissions because electricity (which heat pumps use) can be produced by renewable energy.

COVID-19 latest guidance
 

Getting fully vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself, your family and your community from COVID-19. Spring boosters are now being offered to  people aged 75 and over, who live in a care home for older people, or people aged 12 and over who have a weakened immune system. If you're eligible you'll be contacted by the NHS to book your jab when it's due.

Fun Run and Sports Festival - Sunday 1 May 2022
Sports Fest and Fun Run - this weekend!
 

The annual Sports Festival and Fun Run is due to take place in Priory Park, Reigate, this Sunday. The festival, run in partnership with YMCA East Surrey and supported by Reigate & Banstead Sports Council, will take place from 10am-3pm, with one mile and five-mile fun runs taking place during the day.

The Big Jubilee Lunch
The Queen's Platinum Jubilee events
 

During the special bank holiday weekend at the beginning of June, events will be held across the borough to celebrate The Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Starting with a beacon lighting in Priory Park, Reigate, on the evening of Thursday, 2 June, events such as screenings at the Harlequin Theatre & Cinema in Redhill and picnics in local parks are due to take place.
