Have you responded to important electoral registration information?
If you’ve received a reminder from us asking you to check important electoral registration details, please make sure you take action to make sure you can have your say in future elections. We’ll soon be calling or visiting households that are yet to reply. The annual canvass helps us to keep the electoral register up to date and invite people to register if they aren’t already. Elections for a new shadow unitary authority to replace the existing county, borough and district councils will take place in May 2026, so this is an important opportunity to make sure you can take part.

Help us understand how local people can be best represented
We're undertaking a borough-wide review of the most suitable ways to represent residents at a community level. For Horley and or Salfords & Sidlow, which are already served by a town or parish council, we are asking whether existing arrangements continue to be appropriate or if they should be updated. For other areas, the review will consider whether local communities would be better served by having a parish or town council. The first consultation phase for the Community Governance Review closes on 18 September. Carrying out the review now allows local people to consider parish and town councils in light of the local government reorganisation, which will see all 12 councils in Surrey abolished and replaced with three or two unitary authorities.

There's still time to share your ideas about town and parish councils
We're carrying out a borough-wide review of the most suitable ways to represent residents at a community level. For Horley and or Salfords & Sidlow, which are already served by a town or parish council, we want to know whether the existing arrangements continue to be appropriate or if they should be updated. For other areas, the review will consider whether local communities would be better served by having a parish or town council. Proposals can be submitted by individuals, or groups of individuals, up until 18 September.

Air quality in the Borough. Have your say
We are currently seeking the views of residents on our draft air quality strategy and action plan for the period 2025-2030. The strategy primarily focuses on reducing pollution from road traffic via increasing EV charge point provision and the use of hydrogen fuel cells in the bus fleet, including examining the impact of ultrafine particle pollution from aircraft on residents in Horley.
A full copy of the draft air quality strategy and action plan can be found here. If you would like to make any comments on the draft strategy please email the council by 13 October 2025.
