Shape the Vision for Redhill to Horley Corridor Design Code

We are in the process of developing a vision for the Redhill to Horley corridor which will guide the direction of the Design Code.

We have developed 10 overarching vision statements based on our observations and comments received in the first round of consultation.

Please add your comments and feedback below to shape this vision.

Vision Statements

  • A sense of place, community and culture: 'Build in a way that promotes increased social contact and a feeling that we are all looking out for each other, which means residential streets that encourage informal encounters through shared spaces that are inviting and convivial.'

  • Health and well-being: 'The environment should facilitate health and well-being by enabling people to get incidental exercise in their daily routines, convenient access to leisure facilities, being able to access fresh food, having clean air to breathe, safe streets to travel along, easy access to the natural environment and being able to access medical care when we need to.’

  • Access for all: 'Enable people to live independent lives by enhancing personal security and making facilities and the environment accessible for all, particularly for those with disabilities, young people, women and older people.’

  • Blue & Green: 'Capitalise on the Borough’s high quality green and blue infrastructure networks to provide greater amenity, biodiversity, and climate-change resilience’

  • Climate & Environmental Action:‘We want future generations to inherit a world that provides them with at least the same opportunities as we’ve had, which means protecting our natural resources and minimising the ecological damage that can result from the ways that we travel and build.’

  • Connecting Places: ‘Places should be connected by a well-designed and maintained network of safe pedestrian and cycle routes which link local facilities and services.'

  • Vibrant Urban Centres: ‘Town centres will be rooted to their place and community, will allow for a variety of shopping and cultural experiences, and will support cultural and civic life to foster social inclusion and interaction.’

  • Civic Streets: ‘Well-designed streets should not only function as a place for movement, but also as places to meet and socialise, to rest, to exercise, to play, and to engage in civic life.’

  • Changing Employment Patterns: ‘Create an environment that attracts a range of employers to locate in accessible places around the area and enhance the opportunity for people to access a range of employment options.'

  • Diverse types of high quality new homes: ‘Deliver contextual and high quality new homes in a variety of tenure types and layouts to meet housing needs and to account for future demographic changes.’

An Idea of How This Vision Could Look

We have used these vision statements to develop indicative scenarios for two places along the A23 corridor. We would like to get your feedback on these as a way to understand your priorities for the design code.

*It should be noted that these are not proposals for these sites.
