The Chatty Café Scheme
Are you interested in volunteering?
We would love to offer a 'Chatter & Natter' table at Banstead and Horley Community Centres and need a volunteer to help host the sessions. It's a simple concept where members of the public are invited to sit at the table, simply to chat.
Loneliness is a silent killer and this is a great way that we can work with the community to offer a table in our café to bring people together and tackle loneliness at the same time.
Do you enjoy speaking to new people? Could you spare 1 to 2 hours a week to help promote and host the table?
Full training will be available.
From 21 January, Join us at Woodhatch Community Centre for our first 'Chatter and Natter' table.
These sessions will run every Wednesday from 10am to 12pm for anyone to come along and have a chat with our wonderful volunteers.
Loneliness is a silent killer and this is a great way that we can work with the community to offer a table in our café to bring people together and tackle loneliness at the same time.

Volunteering at our community centre
We’re always looking for new volunteers in all our centres. Whether you want to help with activities for children, share your passion with others, help in the café or on reception, it’s a great way to meet others and give back to your local community.
Volunteering offers countless benefits for both individuals and the wider community. Not only does it provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment, but it also fosters strong social connections and helps build a more supportive and inclusive environment. By volunteering, individuals have the chance to give back, share their skills, and learn from others, all while making a positive impact in their local community.
“Volunteering at the community centre has given me so much pleasure and had been very rewarding to give something back to the community making a difference to people’s lives whilst at the same time making a difference to mine.” Diane Swift – Banstead Community Centre
For more information on volunteering contact the centre you wish to find information about or email communitycentres@reigate-banstead.gov.uk

Reigate repair café administrator wanted
Do you want to make a difference by helping people to reduce household expenses and environmental damage as part of an international movement? Then come and join Reigate Repair Café to make repair local for all those in and around the area.
Repair Café use community repair skills to help people repair and reuse their items, without charge, to reduce household costs and reduce waste.
Benefits of the movement include :
- Reducing the environmental impact of waste and recycling
- Reducing cost of living by making products last longer
- Bringing back repair into local society
- Maintaining and spreading repair expertise
- Promoting social cohesion in the community by connecting people
- You can see more information about the movement by checking out the repair cafe website
Reigate Repair Café is planning to open as early as possible in 2026 at the Woodhatch Community Centre; opening will be on the last Saturday every month.
Reigate Repair Café success will depend on a wide range of people working in harmony with a few simple procedures and the administrator is key to achieving this. Learning from other Repair Cafés, it will be important to identify and implement effective processes and simple systems to schedule the repairs and to match a visitor and volunteer repairer with the right skills. Collecting data on the repair work is valuable in understanding the environmental impact and informing national waste reduction initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement suitable administration processes and systems to smoothly schedule the repair activity with the twin aims of a pleasant and efficient experience for visitors and a rewarding time for volunteers
- Implement suitable administration processes for gathering donations and parts costs
- Support work to capture data on the repairs to be used in national initiatives
- Coaching and training colleagues in the adoption of our systems
- Make recommendations regarding the adoption or improvement of policies, processes and systems
- Be primary liaison with our host site for repair events
- Manage booking form submissions and emails between opening sessions
- Manage the match between volunteer availability and visitor attendance
- Work with Repair Café leader to establish appropriate recording of donations and expenses.
What skills do I need?
- Fluent with modern office tools (word processor, spreadsheets, cloud storage etc)
- Strong administration and organisational experience
- Experience of introducing or changing processes and a passion to make them work in a startup volunteer environment
- Comfortable working in both the back office and the front
The back office work of the Administrator can be carried out from any location and usually requires attention weekly.
Once a month on a fixed and repeating Saturday, the administrator will often need to support the other volunteers at the Repair Café events.
