Children walking with their bikes to school
Cycling project for schools

Schools across Reigate & Banstead are taking part in a Sustrans project, which aims to embed a culture of safe cycling to school through fun events and activities, better storage facilities and community engagement.  Sustrans is the sustainable transport charity. The project encourages children to choose their bikes or scooters rather than their family cars for the school journey.

Hope Dickie, a pupil at Woodmansterne Primary, one of the schools taking part in the project, said “I enjoyed the after school club which Hannah [the Sustrans officer] did with us because it taught me important bike skills.” To find out how your child’s school can take part in the Sustrans project, contact the Bike It officer Hannah Mann, at hannah.mann@sustrans.org.uk

Cycle training for families

This winter, schools will be focussing on cycle safety, with ‘be bright be seen’ mufti days, Bikeability cycle training and activities during road safety week. Cycle training is available for families at half price from Surrey County Council. Email debbie.reid@surreycc.gov.uk or visit the Travel SMART website to find out more.
