East Surrey College (ESC) has announced a new Creative Business Partnership Agreement with the University for the Creative Arts (UCA).

The close working relationship between the well-established and recognised organisations will support the development of students in to creative careers, allowing them to show both their creativity and innovation.

This is the first Partnership Agreement of its kind that the UCA has established with a Further Education College.

It symbolises a wonderful opportunity for local students to benefit from early access to the progression opportunities at the UCA, and for eligible ESC students to have a guaranteed conditional offer of a place without interview on the recommendation of the College.

Students will be able to progress on to study Art & Design, Creative Computing and Games Design courses, as well as study within UCA’s Business School for the Creative Industries exploring Journalism, TV or Music Production.

The University’s Outreach Team will be visiting the College to work with the College teams, delivering exciting events focused on career opportunities, specialist lectures and Higher Education study.

Jayne Dickinson, Principal and Chief Executive at East Surrey College commented:
“We are delighted to be working more closely with the University for the Creative Arts, and the opportunities that it affords our students.
It is pleasing to receive the recognition of such a prestigious University focusing on the creative industries, as we are both well-known for the delivery of high quality teaching and learning.
Our students have a unique opportunity of continuing their studies at such an important creative University”

Professor Bashir Makhoul, Vice-Chancellor of UCA, said:
“This new and exciting agreement emphasises our commitment to increasing opportunities and equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in the creative sector.
Skills that can be developed and honed through a creative education, such as problem solving, innovation and creativity, are in increasing demand in the modern workplace. Our Partnership with East Surrey College will enable more students to benefit from a creative education, and to learn to apply their creative skillset to a range of disciplines, industries and businesses.”

A wide range of Higher Education courses are available both at East Surrey College and at the University for the Creative Arts. Full details of the offer are available on the relevant organisation’s website.

Working in partnership, the two organisations are also delighted to be able to offer a Summer School opportunity for GCSE leavers and pre-Foundation Art students within the local community. Further details will be announced shortly, and will appear on the East Surrey College website www.esc.ac.uk.

In 2018, 14 year old Reigate karter Alfie Prince sets out on an adventure to conquer Europe and - just maybe - the world. Following a successful rookie year in the Junior class, where he came 3rd in the Buckmore Club Championship and 16th of 52 drivers in the British Grand Prix, Alfie will be racing across the UK, Belgium and France, aiming to earn a place in the International Finals at Le Mans in October.

Peter Prince, Dad, coach, self-taught mechanic and marketing communications professional, is keen to work with local businesses that can benefit from sponsoring Alfie. Karting is the grassroots of motorsport and Alfie has shown his potential with consistent podiums and championship successes that began at the age of 7.

“A full season karting at this level costs around £15,000 to get the most out of Alfie’s potential”, said Peter. “Alfie has been supported as a Cadet by Fortanini Menswear of Reigate and Dunottar School through a scholarship that recognises his karting, but European racing is a step up and we would love others to get involved.”

An active social media presence, local press coverage and impactful brand marketing opportunities are the most obvious benefits of sponsorship, but partnership with Alfie can be used to shape bespoke campaigns that maximise the impact for local companies.

If you are interested, you can find out more by viewing the Partnership brochure, browsing Alfie’s website www.alfieprince.com or getting in touch directly with Peter via the contact page. Peter looks forward to discussing how you could make the most out of a partnership with Alfie Prince Racing.

Environment in Business News

All companies should be embedding care for the environment into their business to get the commercial benefits. Eshcon identify improvements, calculate carbon emissions and put in Environmental Management Systems (EMS), so that you become more efficient, reduce risk and win new business.

This year, you will need to be aware of deadlines and legislation requirements that may affect your business.

If you have an ISO 14001 certified EMS, you need to upgrade to the new standard by the deadline of September 2018. There are some significant changes required, which need to be done as soon as possible.

Companies coming under the ESOS energy regulations should be gathering data now – you’ll need to show energy consumption for a 12 month period until 31st December 2018. Energy audits can be done now too, so you benefit from the energy savings sooner.
