Member Briefing 25 September, 6.30 – 7.15 Old Council Chamber

Since 2005, RBBC has invested in Community Development as a way of supporting our most vulnerable residents. Working alongside partners and residents the Community Development (CD) Team have been at the heart of a huge range of local initiatives. Members are invited to meet the team and find out about the impact of our work in 2024 and to look to the future and how the team (and the wider Community Partnerships Service) can support the Council to meet the objectives of the new Five Year Plan.

The CD impact report for 2025 can be found on the RBBC website

FINAL REMINDER: Complete Your Fraud Awareness Training by 30 September 2025

In February 2025 all Reigate & Banstead Borough Council staff and Members were asked to complete fraud awareness training.  This was a response to a fraud audit ensuring that all roles in the Council have access to the online training platform to ensure staff and Members know where the risk of fraud is within our roles.  In addition, it provides useful information on how we can report it if we suspect something is not right.

Records show that some Members have not completed the training, therefore this is a reminder to complete this training by 30/09/2025 please.

The training is an interactive session with videos to watch and questions to complete and will take between 45 to 60 minutes to complete.

Please follow this link to complete the training: Interactive training session

Member Training – Videos, Presentations and Evaluation

We recently held Member training sessions on ‘Chairing Skills’ and ‘Standards and Ethical Governance’. These were delivered by Bethan Evans, GOV TC, and were very well received.

Recordings of the training are available in the Member Learning and Development resources folder, along with slideshows, for Members to view at their convenience.

If you attended the training, please complete the online evaluation form to assist with future training programmes.

Review decision to abolish independent local Healthwatch - Petitions

How can you help?

Why do we need your help?

Any petition to the government needs:

  • 10,000 signatures for the government to respond to the petition
  • 100,000 signatures for it to be considered for debate in Parliament.

Why is it important?

USPs of independent public voice initiatives:

  • Being an independent critical friend – working constructively with local stakeholders, but always with the freedom to raise concerns without fear or favour. Services can’t be held to account by the same bodies that fund or manage them. Independence is essential for honest feedback and meaningful scrutiny.

Banner about the national petition: Image shows a pink box with an icon of a pen signing at the bottom. The wording says: Protect the independence of local voices in health and care - sign our national petition to the government #ProtectIndependentVoice. In the top left hand corner is our Healthwatch Surrey logo
